Gallup says it’s at the lowest point in two decades.
While most adults in the U.S. still say they are proud to be Americans, the level of patriotism, or national pride, has reached its lowest point in 20 years, according to a new Gallup poll.
The poll shows that 42 percent of adults say they’re still “extremely proud” and 21 percent say they’re “very proud,” but those numbers are the lowest since Gallup began measuring them in 2001.
The numbers were reported from May 28 to June 4 and correlate with the challenges Americans are facing from the coronavirus and the civil unrest across the country.
The Gallup poll showed that pride in America has been dropping across the past two decades, with the exception of 2002 to 2004, after the 9/11 attacks, when between 65 percent and 70 percent were extremely proud.
